“Altrincham will be a seriously tough game”

Assistant manager Danny Webb spoke with the media ahead of Saturday’s away fixture at Altrincham.

He began by reflecting on the 1-1 draw with Oldham Athletic last week, saying: “It’s come and gone now, there’s no looking back.

“We have to look forwards and move on to the next game, I always say results don’t lie but that one was tough to take.

“It’s important we bounce back and look to the next game though; you can’t let stuff like that put a bump in your road.

“If you can’t win the game then draw, but we would’ve liked to have won that one. We move on, though.

“Altrincham will be a seriously tough game so all eyes are focused on this one now with one eye in the background on Monday’s home fixture to Hartlepool United.”

Webb made it very clear that two games in three days is not an excuse to not pick up maximum points.

“Everyone is in the same boat as us so it’s really important that we don’t use fatigue as an excuse,” he said.

“It’s a big weekend for us with two fixtures, we have to get it right.

“There’s no doubt that it’s tough for the players that play both games but it’s part of the game.

“It’s all part of the journey, no excuses. We’re aiming for six points, simple as that.

“For me it’s part of the fun, I like the double header over the Bank Holiday. For the fans, specifically, it’s great.”

Finally, he provided an update on the injured Ryheem Sheckleford and touched on the fitness of the squad.

He said: “Unfortunately Ryheem Sheckleford is out for at least a month; his hamstring results were disappointing for us all. It’s gutting for the lad; he was doing so well.

“This is what a good squad is for though, one door closes for now and another one opens.

“Bailey Clements is still out but is back in light training which is positive.

“The rest of the squad are doing well, it’s all eyes on Saturday now. We wish all the fans travelling a safe journey up.”
