The women’s team battled to a goal-less draw at York City Ladies on Sunday afternoon.
Manager Andrea Parkinson made two changes to the side that beat Ripon City with Clarkson and Clark coming into the starting line-up.
With York also doing well this season, it was always going to be a tough challenge for the Spireites.
Chesterfield started the game well, creating chances and efforts from both Clark and Butterworth hit the woodwork.
There were spells for both teams in possession, however both defences stayed disciplined and neither team could break through.
As the interval approached, the Spireites re-focused and re-grouped and half-time discussions were about staying patient and also about keeping their focus.
Neither side could break the deadlock, however. Carroll made an outstanding save in the second half to protect her third clean sheet in a row.
There were Player of the Match performances from Carroll and Clarkson.
Attention now turns to the forthcoming Derbyshire Cup semi-final, where the Spireites face Derby County U20s at Moor Farm.
