Spireites captain Jamie Grimes has given his thoughts on various topics including his summer, his personal goals for the next campaign, the new lads and much more.
How’s your summer been so far?
It’s been great. I’ve really enjoyed my summer so far. This is the longest I’ve had off for a very long time so I’ve taken the time to rest, both physically and mentally. I’ve been on a few holidays to get away and have some time and that’s been fun and enjoyable. I’ve really enjoyed the time to just sit back and relax, whilst also maintaining myself of course. I’ve also been playing lots of golf. I love golf and it’s been great to have more time to play it so I’ve been enjoying that.
Reflecting on last season, has it really sunk in yet?
I’m so incredibly proud to have been part of such an amazing group that achieved something so special; it was fantastic. We finally got the club back it where it belongs and I feel so incredibly proud to be part of that. The season will forever be a treasured memory for me and I’m sure all the lads. Winning a league title has been a goal of mine ever since I started playing football and until now, I have never achieved it. I think it made it even more special to win it in front of all our incredible supporters. That Boreham Wood fixture was a special day, it really was fantastic. I’m so proud of what happened and what we achieved; and now I can’t wait to go again.
How much are you looking forward to next season?
I’m buzzing! It will be a new challenge for us and that will keep us hungry and motivated to keep going. Last year is done now and we are starting to look forward to the new season and getting ready to go again. What’s done is done and it’s nearly time to go again. I’m really looking forward to getting stuck into pre-season and getting going again. My motivation for the new campaign is higher than ever and I know the lads will be ready to get going the moment we walk back on to that training field.
More than 5,000 season tickets have been sold, what are your thoughts on this?
Selling over 5,000 season tickets is just incredible. It’s amazing and it really shows how much everyone is excited about the new season and it certainly motivates us as players, knowing so many supporters want to come and watch and support us, week in, week out. The atmosphere at home last season was incredible and I’m looking forward to experiencing a Football League game in front of our fans. It’s up to us as players now to try and start well and keep that good feeling around the place going. We love the supporters and I can’t wait to be playing in front of them again.
What are your personal goals for next season?
I haven’t thought too much about my own personal goals for next year yet. My goal right now is to improve myself physically over this summer period. I want to arrive in pre-season in the best shape possible. I’m working hard to ensure I come back in the best physical shape so I can start the season on top form and be ready to go from the first whistle. I will start to set myself some goals as the season approaches, I’m sure, but right now my full focus is on building and improving my physical attributes.
Are you excited at the prospect of meeting the new lads?
The club have made some fantastic signings so far that have really excited me. I am sure there will be a few more before pre-season gets going and I’m looking forward to them. I can’t wait to meet the new lads; it’s always great. It will be great to see and meet the new lads as well as catching up with some of the boys from last season. Bring it on!
