Alwyn Nightingale

We are saddened to hear that lifelong supporter Alwyn Nightingale has died at the age of 92.

Alwyn followed the Spireites from the age of eight, remembering the huge crowds at pre-war Saltergate. His favourite player was Ray Middleton but he also followed the career of Gerry Clarke as he played with him on the “Blue Fly” at Barrow Hill.

He travelled away well into his eighties with his favourite away day being Grimsby, if just for the fish and chips.

Alwyn leaves his daughter and son-in-law and the two grandchildren he first brought to matches: all are season ticket holders.

Our thoughts are with Alwyn’s family and friends at this time.
