Chesterfield FC Women bounce back in style

Chesterfield FC Women bounced back in style following their opening day defeat, winning 5-1 at Sheffield United Community on Sunday.

The starting line-up included two new players who made their debut.

The Spireites came out on the front foot and scored three quick-fire goals in the first 15 minutes with Foster (2) and Butterworth find the net.

In the first half, Chesterfield saw a lot of the ball and were disciplined out of possession which limited the home side’s opportunities.

At half time they focused on what worked in the first half and the importance of staying disciplined, knowing Sheffield United Community would come out fighting in the second half.

The hosts did just that and pulled a goal back. It was important for the Spireites to get the next goal, which they did with Foster taking it well to complete her hat-trick.

The second half was scrappy and they couldn’t get the ball to stick but Foster secured the win with a fifth goal for them team and her fourth.

Overall a great team performance as the Spireites got their first points on the board. The Players of the Match were O’Brien and Foster.

Manager Andrea Parkinson said: “The players were fantastic and showed great resilience after a defeat last week.

“We re-focused this week in training and we also spent time in the classroom analysing last week’s game.

“The two debutants settled in very quickly. We now keep building for next week’s game away at York.”
