Chesterfield FC Women secure a point on the road

Chesterfield FC Women were involved in a six-goal thriller this afternoon, drawing 3-3 at York Railway Institute.

Another 16-year-old from the development team made her debut for the first team.

The Spireites started the game on the front foot, just like the previous week, scoring two goals in seven minutes with Foster and Singleton on target.

The second goal proved to be a wake-up call for the opposition as they put the pressure on and the Spireites keeper made some outstanding saves to protect the two-goal lead going into the break.

There was a chance to go further ahead when a penalty was awarded but unfortunately the York keeper made a save to keep out the spot-kick.

The hosts then scored twice from open play and their experience came through as they pinned the Spireites back in their own half.

Chesterfield kept trying to play their game and were rewarded for that with O’Brien scoring a great goal, taking on two players and finding the net from 25 yards out

York equalised and only Rowley’s clearance off the line in the final minute prevented them from snatching a late winner.

Afterwards, manager Andrea Parkinson said: “At half time we spoke about the way the opposition would be piling on the pressure and they did exactly that.

“Unfortunately, we couldn’t keep focused for the last eight minutes and the opposition scored an equaliser.

“Overall, it was good to get a point on the road after a good, physical performance.”
