Comprehensive win for women’s team

Chesterfield FC Women marked their first game of 2024 with a comprehensive 8-0 victory at home to Ripon City on Sunday afternoon.

Returning to action following a two-week break, there were two changes to the starting XI following the cup quarter-final tie.

There was a wake-up call for the Spireites when Ripon hit a post from distance.

Chesterfield then took control with Foster scoring a hat-trick in a six-minute spell, which included a penalty.

This gave the team confidence but they couldn’t find the back of the net again until after the break.

The fourth goal was scored by Butterworth who, after assists in the first half and a good performance, deserved a goal.

Foster then scored twice to make it 6-0.

Captain Harrison, who was named joint Player of the Match, then got in on the act with a goal.

Singleton rounded off the scoring after coming off the bench and settling into the game quickly.

Credit goes to the players for a strong, attacking performance, backed up by a clean sheet for Carroll in goal.
