Danny Webb ahead of Barrow trip

Assistant manager Danny Webb spoke with 1866+ prior to making the journey up to Barrow for the Easter Monday fixture.

Firstly reflecting on the 1-0 win over Cheltenham Town, Webb said: “You’ve got to be very careful as coaches to put out the phrase ‘must win’, but it was, you know.

”I think it was a must win, you know, and you look at the results elsewhere and it was a great result. Obviously, if we don’t win it, who cares what goes on elsewhere, because we’d still be outside the top seven.

“So, it’s that old saying, it’s technically in our hands to get in the play-offs now, which we would have taken before the game. So we’ve got to go to Barrow now and back it up because that’d be a real kick in the gut if we go there and let ourselves down.”

On Barrow themselves, he added: “We’re looking at the top end of the table. If you’re looking down the bottom, it’s anyone’s to get relegated.

“Sam Foley has gone in and had some sort of reaction because they’re getting some good results against some tough teams and we’re going into town and they’ll certainly back themselves.

“They won’t fear us, they’ll respect us, but they won’t fear us. They’ve got nothing to lose, we’ll be the favourites. We’ve got to make sure that their relegation battle continues.”

Webb finished by praising the Chesterfield supporters, saying: “I’m sure we’ll take hundreds to Barrow. Yeah, as I say, we’re in a better position than we were this time last year, but I suppose from the outside looking in, people might say that the form isn’t as good though, although I would argue that we’ve won a lot of games in the last five or six.

“It’s just certainly the way and the method of the defeats has probably made it feel like we’re not doing as good as what we actually are. So, it’s important now, going into these last few games, that we get as many points on the board and make sure we keep it in our hands going right to the end.”
