Assistant manager Danny Webb have his thoughts following the 3-2 defeat to Halifax Town on Tuesday evening.
Despite a late comeback to draw level at 2-2 with goals from Ruel Sotiriou and Josh Koroma, Halifax found time for a stoppage-time winner to seal the victory.
Webb said: “One thing about all the lads, whether they’re trialists, youngsters, experienced pros or new signings, they’ve come into the dressing room just like after Sheffield United and their shirts are wet through, so that’s the main thing – the fitness and the work rate.
“It wasn’t a great performance, it was very sloppy at times, but great to see two bits of quality from our two new attacking signings in Ruel Sotiriou and Josh Koroma.
“The gaffer highlighted in the dressing room that we need to eradicate some of the things we did last season, such as conceding late goals or not respecting the point as much as we should as a group.
“Having equalised in the last minute, imagining it was a league or cup game, the other team go down the other end of the pitch and score.
“The gaffer is disappointed with aspects but obviously pleased with the two bits of quality that looked like they were going to get something from the game.”
The Spireites are set for a behind-closed-doors friendly this weekend before heading over to Ireland for a pre-season training camp which will see them face a Bohemians XI in Dublin at Dalymount Park at 6pm on Friday, July 24. Tickets can be bought here.
Post-match interviews are sponsored by VisitMalta.
