Defeat for women’s team

Chesterfield FC Women faced Gainsborough again this afternoon, this time at home, losing 7-0 to the league champions.
Gainsborough took an early lead straight from kick off.
The Spireites responded by having a couple of efforts on goal. The first from Steph O’Brien, whose free-kick looked to be creeping in at the near post, but the keeper gathered. A few minutes later, Tia Mcdonagh had a shot on target, but it was also saved.
A couple of brave saves from Rhianne Carroll kept the visitors at bay before they doubled their lead in the 28th minute.
Gainsborough added a third ten minutes later.
The visitors got their fourth a couple of minutes before half-time. Carroll made a great save to deny the initial shot, but the Gainsborough striker put the follow-up in.
A big deflection gave Gainsborough their fifth goal on the stroke of half-time.
Twenty minutes into the second-half, the Spireites had a chance through Lucy Graham, who was through on goal, but her shot was over the bar.
Gainsborough added to their tally minutes later, to make it 6-0 and in the 70th minute, added a seventh goal.
The Spireites had a couple of chances before the full-time whistle. Maddie Watkinson hit the crossbar with a great free kick and Amelia Skinner put the ball just wide.
