The Spireites reserves lost 4-1 against their Stoke City counterparts at Alfreton Town’s Impact Arena on Tuesday afternoon.
They began their final Central League fixture of the season strongly and opened the scoring inside three minutes when Mohssen Mohamed volleyed home from the edge of the box.
The goalscorer gave away a penalty just three minutes later though, which was converted into the bottom left corner to level.
The Potters took the lead on ten minutes when the Spireites failed to clear from a corner and the ball was scrambled into the back of the net.
They made it 3-1 on 17 minutes, after a low strike from the right side of the box found the bottom left corner.
Good pressure from forward pairing James Simmonite and Luca Vergari saw the latter have a one-on-one opportunity five minutes before break, but the onrushing keeper made himself big to deny.
Midfielder Lewis Reah picked up the loose ball, but struck over from outside the box.
The visitors troubled again on the hour-mark, with a fierce strike flying just over from 25 yards out.
Chesterfield’s next opportunity came in the 68th minute as substitute Theo Wainman saw his free-kick deflected behind.
Stand-in goalkeeper Bobbie White pulled off a fantastic double save with 15 minutes to play, denying Stoke twice from close range to keep the score at 3-1.
Reah could’ve pulled one back with 12 to play, but struck wide after connecting with a set-piece at the back post.
White did well to deny again eight minutes from time, but the opposition made it 4-1 in the 84th minute after heading home from a corner.
