Draw at home to Salford

The Spireites continued their unbeaten start to the League Two season despite only picking up a point at home to ten-man Salford City in a 1-1 draw.

James Berry opened the scoring with just 20 minutes to go before susbstitute Kelly N’Mai struck with the equaliser after Curtis Tilt’s red card.

Paul Cook named an unchanged side from the last league game – a 5-0 away win at Crewe Alexandra.
Chesterfield started brightly and created the first chance within the first couple of minutes; Vontae Daley-Campbell’s back-post cross was met by Berry, who looped his head over the crossbar.

The game was mainly dominated by the home side during the first half, but the flow was interrupted by tactically placed breaks by Salford.

Chey Dunkley looked destined to grab his first goal for the club as he fought to latch onto a flick-on to the back post – his jump was slightly too early, and the ball was eventually cleared.

Karl Robinson’s side had their best chance of the half just before the half hour mark. A smart lay-off found Conor McAleny but the midfielder’s shot drifted wide past the post.

Dilan Markanday, who was very lively in the first 45, immediately went up the other end, cut inside the box and had an effort deflected over the crossbar.

The first half of the second half failed to produce much in the way of chances.

Two moments started to bring the crowd to life with Armando Dobra involved in two fouls from Josh Austerfield and Luke Garbutt, both were booked.

In the 69th minute, Berry was allowed to run at Tom Edwards before brilliantly curling an effort into the far corner.

Tilt was booked before the re-start for his protestations and then given a second yellow just seconds later for barging Will Grigg off the ball.

Despite having a man disadvantage, Salford drew themselves level with around five minute to go. N’Mai cut in from the wing and found the back of the net with an effort that was deflected off Dunkley.

The Spireites pushed to find a winner with Dobra coming agonisingly close but both sides had to settle for a point.
