Grigg on his return from injury

Will Grigg spoke exclusively to 1866+ after he returned to the pitch against Harrogate last weekend following a lengthy spell on the sidelines with injury, saying: “It’s tough being injured, having to watch the boys from the sidelines is really difficult so it’s been a long 12-13 weeks, but there’s been a lot of hard work in the gym and the feeling of getting back on the pitch was incredible.

“I actually did the injury against Carlisle and tried to play on with it and didn’t think it was as bad as it was, then playing 60 minutes against Wimbledon minutes made it a lot worse, unfortunately.

“It’s been tough, it’s three or four weeks of rest to let the muscle heal and then after that it’s hard work in the gym to get that strength back and then obviously getting the fitness up out on the grass.”

Will then praised the rest of the squad as he has integrated back into training, saying: “It’s been great, the new lads are brilliant. The club does their work in terms of finding the right personalities for the club.

“The gaffer has always been big on not just looking at how good a player they are, but how they are as a person as well.

“The boys we’ve got in the door have been great, they’ve come straight into the group really easily and for myself as one of the older boys it’s about trying to get them involved as soon as possible.

“The dressing room is full of lively, bubbly, good characters and it makes a massive difference when things are going well.

“We had a little spell after Christmas that was tough, but to have those people in the dressing room to keep us going and ticking over is so important.”

Looking ahead to the Barrow fixture, Will said: “To have followed up the tough run we had with three wins and a draw is brilliant.

“The feeling around the place has definitely changed from three or four weeks ago and that’s part of football.

“The dressing room after Saturday’s game was a strange one because we felt so frustrated. We dominated the game and you walk in after the whistle and there’s so much disappointment, but the gaffer tried to lift our heads straight away.”

“I’m personally obviously feeling great to be back out there, but in terms of the club, from the moment I got here it felt like an unbelievable project that I felt honoured to be part of.

“We are obviously slightly disappointed where we are in the table, but in terms of everything that’s happening off the pitch and what’s happening in that dressing room, we’re really pleased.

“It’s an honour to be part of the club every single day, so that’s credit from top to the bottom for everyone involved.”
