“Hopefully we can start to put a bit of a run together”

Leicester City loanee Sammy Braybrooke spoke exclusively to 1866+ in ahead of the away fixture against his former side, Newport County, whom he spent the first half of the 2025/26 season on loan with before switching to the Spireites for the remainder of the campaign.

Explaining how he has found his time in North Derbyshire so far, he said: “I’ve been enjoying it to be fair. Obviously the MK Dons game was a bit different.

“I got thrown in and enjoyed it a lot. From there I could see the sort of game I was coming into and what sort of club it is. I’m just enjoying my time, getting to know the lads and hopefully we can start to put a bit of a run together.”

As he prepares to face the team he was playing for less than a month ago, he added: “It’s a bit odd. We’ve been watching videos of them and there are a few clips of me playing for Newport which was a bit weird! But no, I think it’ll be a good one.

“They’re a good team. In the games I’ve played in them, we competed in every game, so they’re definitely a strong team. It’ll be a tough place to go, but hopefully we can go down there and get a good result.”

Lastly, he touched on his former manager, Christian Fuchs, and what he was expecting from the Exiles.

“It’s his first time as a manager and he’s come into a difficult position, probably one of the hardest positions in the EFL at the bottom of League Two. It’s not going to be easy, but from the moment he came in, he was good.

“There were no grey areas. He knew what he wanted to do. He sets them up defensively strong and they build from that. He’s definitely one to look out for because that team still believes in him to turn it around.”
