Assistant manager Danny Webb met with the media on Friday morning, discussing the Spireites’ preparations for Saturday’s trip to Shrewsbury Town in the final fixture before Christmas.
With Armando Dobra and Janoi Donacien making progress on their recoveries over the last few days, Webb said: “When lads come back from injury, they have to tick off a lot of boxes to show they’re up to scratch to join in with the rest of the team. They’re in and amongst that (process) at the minute. ‘JD’ is a lot closer than ‘Dobs’, but both of them are coming along really well.
“Dobra is a good few weeks off yet, but it’s positive. We’re not the only club that get them (injuries), we can’t play the sob story. He’s one of our best players and we haven’t had him for a while, but we are in the play-offs and with people like him to come back, we’ll be looking to kick on and go from strength to strength.”
With a succession of games just around the corner throughout the festive period, the assistant manager gave his thoughts on football at this time of year.
“It’s brilliant,” he said. “There are times last Christmas where I might have had a very different answer when we had 11 players fit at Bradford.
“I do like the Christmas period; I like the vibe and the atmosphere. I can’t wait for the Notts County fixture on Boxing Day, it’s going to be rocking. It’s great for the supporters when they’re sat having their Christmas dinner to have something to look forward to on Boxing Day.
“We’ll be in on Christmas Day for training – as a football person you’re used to that more times than not, that’s something we’re used to because it’s all about getting those three points.”
Finally, speaking about Shrewsbury’s quality, he said: “You look at their players, look at their team and the fact their manager has managed at a high level, and they’re down the wrong end of the league.
“In terms of their players, they’ve got three powerful centre-halves, Sam Clucas is someone Chesterfield fans know really well and John Marquis has been around and knows how to score goals.”
“You can look at their team, their start to the season and where they’re expected to be, but I guarantee Michael will have them revved up tomorrow afternoon.”
