New signing Jack Sparkes shared his feelings on joining the club, saying: “I’m really happy. It’s been on the go probably for the last week or so, so I’m really happy to get it done and join up with the new lads.
“I’m a full-back that likes to get forward. I think my main strength is putting balls into the box and my crossing, so I’ll be looking to do that.”
Speaking on his title-winning season with Portsmouth last campaign, Jack added: “The manager has made it clear that we’re going for promotion so it’s a no-brainer for me to come here and try and do that.
“He really wanted to sign me so that’s a big indicator that he obviously likes me and wants to be here so when you feel that kind of love from a manager then it obviously makes you want to sign.
“I had a really good year at Portsmouth, can’t speak highly enough of what happened there and the manager, so I’m looking forward to obviously getting settled in. I think the manager can bring a lot to my game and help me improve as well.
“I played here for Portsmouth in the FA Cup a couple of seasons ago when we got beat. I know what it’s like to come here and be under pressure and the crowd definitely got to us that day, so it’d be nice to have them on my side.
“I’m coming here to try and get in the team and play. Just because I’ve come here doesn’t mean I warrant coming in and starting straight away, I’ve got to earn that. I’ll be working hard in training to start with and then trying to get myself into the team and then on an team level we want to get promoted, that’s the reason I’ve come here.”
