Impressive win for young Spireites

The Under 17s earned a brilliant 3-0 win over Holbeach FC’s Under 19s on Wednesday afternoon. A fantastic hat-trick from Prince Agyemang led the young Spireites to maximum points.

In a dominant display from Chesterfield, the first goal arrived after 15 minutes. Left-back Matas Gerasimov played an excellent ball down the left-hand side to Agyemang, who produced a moment of magic. From a tight angle, the forward took the keeper by surprise with a phenomenal, early finish at the near post.

The Spireites were at it again a quarter of an hour later. Following the great opening goal, Agyemang created space for himself and drove forward. After shifting the ball onto his right foot, he sent a fine strike flying into the top left corner to make it 2-0.

At half-time, Chesterfield were in complete control and looking to extend their advantage in the second half.

This was almost the case as the second 45 began. Jack Brassey found Luca Cancello with a good cross, but Cancello headed just wide of the post.

With the Spireites still in complete control, the win was secured with ten minutes to go. Cancello was brought down for a spot kick, and Agyemang stepped up and side-footed the ball into the top right corner to complete his hat-trick.

The Player of the Match and hat-trick hero, Agyemang, said: “I think the team had a good performance. We dominated possession for the entire game, and it felt comfortable. Everything went well for me and the team.”

On his three goals, he said: “It feels like I had a perfect game. I think all my goals were good, so I was very happy. (For the first goal) I beat the players, and the wind was on our side and I had a lot of space, so I thought, I might as well just shoot.”

Agyemang spoke with confidence about the rest of his and Chesterfield’s season, saying: “I feel once you get a good win, you gain more confidence so hopefully many more goals and many more wins to come.”
