Assistant manager Danny Webb spoke with the media ahead of Saturday’s first away trip of the season to AFC Fylde.
He began by reflecting on last week’s 4-3 win over Dorking Wanderers at the SMH Group Stadium.
He said: “Without doubt we need to be doing better, we can’t be shipping three goals at home every week.
“We will get better though and we will progress as the season goes on, it’s all things we can fix.
“The win is really what matters and all three points were eventually secured.
“The supporters stuck with us and we’re thankful for that, Dorking turned up to cause and upset and we didn’t allow that in the end which shows great grit and determination from the lads.”
Danny then spoke about this week’s opponents and how they differ.
“Fylde are similar to Dorking in the way they’re going to play without fear and will feel like underdogs,” he said.
“The way the play is slightly different to Dorking though, but they will still come at us.
“It’s a tough game that’s for sure and we won’t be taking them lightly.
“They [Fylde] can mix their game up really well, it’s a good part of the way they play.
“They can change it up really well. For sure they’re going to be seriously dangerous and we’re going to have to deal with their problems.”
The Spireites captured the signing of James Berry on Friday and the assistant manager touched on what he will bring to the squad, saying: “We’re delighted to have brought James in, he’s a quality player.
“He brings direct pace and hunger to the side and it’s a great signing for us.
“He adds something different and he’s a quality player so it’s an exciting time for us.
“He’s young and exciting and such a great lad; he’s excited and so are we.”
Finally, Danny spoke about squad rotation and the importance of the supporters.
He said: “We have pretty much two or three quality players for every position.
“That’s what having a good squad is all about, you have quality coming off the bench and even in the stands.
“Jeff King took the news of being left out the team on Saturday really well, he’s trained fantastically and been class about the place as usual.
“You don’t expect a lad to skip and jump when they find out they’re out of the team but he didn’t sulk either.
“In terms of injuries, Bailey Clements is still out for now. We’re hoping he will be back to some light training in around a week or so.
“We’re excited for tomorrow’s game; it should be a good test and it should be a good battle.
“With over 1,000 fans travelling we’re looking forward to it. We need the supporters tomorrow, everyone that is travelling we need them to get behind us and back us from minute one.
“We want to hear that 12th man as much as possible. Let’s have a good day out and the supporters can really help us do that.”
