“It was a really solid, professional performance”

Chesterfield assistant manager Danny Webb was pleased to move back into the play-off places with the 2-0 win against Salford, especially after last weekend’s heavy defeat away at Colchester.

Ronan Darcy and an own goal from Ollie Turton secured all three points for the Spireites.

Webb said: “Great performance, and an even better result. This time last week, there were a lot of depressed Spireites driving home, and there were a lot of depressed Spireites on that team bus.

“We can’t underestimate the importance of that game on Tuesday [1-0 win vs Burton Albion], which gave other lads game time, and allowed us to get the Colchester game out of our system.

“Clean sheet Tuesday, and a clean sheet today. It was a really solid, professional performance.

“It was a great crowd again. We started on the front foot, and Salford had some good threats because they’re a good team. It shows that a week is a long time in football because now we are a point off third and firmly back in the play-off picture.”

Webb was especially pleased with the defensive element to the victory.

He said: “I thought the back four was fantastic, as they were on Tuesday.

“Tom Naylor and Stirky [Ryan Stirk] against a side who look to play quickly, you have to be quick to get to the second balls, and I thought Tom and Stirky were excellent at that today.

“It’s an improvement on last season’s result against these, which is massive in our quest for the top three.”

Naylor will now miss the next game due to his second-minute yellow card, which confused supporters and management.

Webb said: “The only thing I was a bit confused about was the booking for Tom Naylor. We actually thought it was a bad tackle on him.

“Vontae [Daley-Campbell] and Tom Naylor will miss Fleetwood as it stands.”

Webb was keen to reiterate that it is still early in the season and that the side is slowly starting to reach the level expected of them.

He said: “There will be more blips. But we cannot have more like the Crewe game and the Colchester one. You can have a blip, but you can’t have any more maulings.”
