Jessop gives his reaction to title-winning victory

Liam Jessop praised the U23 team’s performance in a 6-0 win over I2i International Academy Gold U23s to clinch the National Football Youth League title.

He said: “We started strong, I think, in general, the whole game we played well from back to front.

“Obviously we’ve worked hard the whole season and deserved [to win] the league.”

Prior to kick-off, I2i International Academy Gold were the only team that could catch Chesterfield’s U23s via games in hand.

Jessop said: “I think we just outplayed them, and we deserved the result that we got from all the hard work we’ve put in throughout the whole season.”

Jessop is a Gibraltar international and has upcoming fixtures against Scotland and Wales to look forward to, both in June.

On these upcoming fixtures, he said: “Obviously it is a privilege to play for my country.

“I’m just excited and looking forward to training with them and trying to get into the team.”

The U23s will now look towards their National Football Youth League Cup final at Pride Park on Tuesday, May 14.

Jessop spoke about his aspirations going into next season, saying: “We want to keep getting better, we want to progress.

“We’ll just keep trying our best and keep moving forward to see how we progress.”
