Kyle McFadzean pre-Notts County

Kyle McFadzean was speaking ahead of Sunday’s huge play-off semi-final first leg clash against Notts County at the SMH Group Stadium.

He began by praising the team’s current form and how much he is relishing playing in this current backline, saying: “The spirits are good, we’re looking forward to it, but we’ve done nothing yet, we need to win this game. We’re full of confidence, but we know it’s going to be a tough game.

“[Sil Swinkels] He’s a really good player, he’s got a lot of good attributes, and he keeps getting better and better as each game goes by. It’s a settled back four, and we’ve been alright lately; it’s been good.

“Booty [Ryan Boot] has been different class since he came in. Obviously, he had to wait for his chance because Zach [Hemming] has been really good this season as well, but he has fully taken it and long may that continue.

“It’s a bit weird because last season we did exactly the same, we had a good run, but we fully deserve to be where we are.

“It’s a bit disappointing that we only ended up missing out [on automatic promotion] by three points, but that is what you get when you’re not consistent.

“But we are consistent at the minute, and we’re full of confidence. We just need to enjoy the moment and have a good go.”

McFadzean then confirmed his availability for Sunday’s game and spoke about having his recent red card against Fleetwood overturned: “On the day I was disappointed that it happened, sometimes they get them wrong, don’t they, but I knew it would get overturned.

“That wasn’t the rules, he didn’t take it past me, he actually shot, and I felt like I got a little bit of the ball. I knew it had a good chance of getting overturned, and it did. I won’t look back on that and just look forward now.”

He continued by discussing the Spireites’ front line finding form at the right time, saying: “I feel like Dobs [Armando Dobra] is back to his old self and Lee [Bonis] works his socks off and fully deserves the goals that are coming at the minute, and Dilan [Markanday] is getting back to how he was.

“We’re in good stead at the minute, but it’s the play-offs now, and we have to make sure that we turn up on the day.”

Finally, McFadzean was full of praise for the Chesterfield supporters ahead of Sunday. He said: “We could sell two of these stadiums out for this game. They have been fantastic all season, and hopefully, we can make them proud by the end of this.”
