After the departure of Gareth Ainsworth in March 2025, Shrewsbury appointed Michael Appleton as his replacement. Despite suffering relegation to League Two, Appleton signed a new deal to take him into the 2025/26 season.

KEY PLAYER

Despite Shrewsbury Town’s relegation last season, John Marquis had his best campaign in four years – since scoring 18 for Portsmouth in 2020/21. The striker captained the team for the second half of last term and will be looking to add more goals this time around.

Last season in numbers:

Appearances – 43

Goals –12

Assists – 1

Yellow Cards – 5

Red Cards – 1

Minutes Played – 3,098

PLAYED FOR BOTH

Upon leaving Sheffield Wednesday at the end of the 2021/22 campaign, Chey Dunkley signed for League One side Shrewsbury Town. The defender only missed one game in his two seasons in Shropshire – captaining the side in his second year. He made exactly 100 appearances and scored ten times for the Shrews.

After taking the decision to depart Shrewsbury, Dunkley signed for Chesterfield and linked back up with Paul Cook who he played under at Wigan Athletic. Unfortunately, the veteran only made 11 appearances before his season was cut short. He has now recovered and ready ahead of the 2025/26 League Two campaign.
