Manager looking ahead to “big week”

Cook

Reflecting on last weekend’s 0-0 draw with Harrogate, Paul Cook said: “It was disappointing in the end. Credit must go to Harrogate, they started the game very aggressively and on the front foot.

“Like most games, in the end we managed to gain control. All in all, we take our point and move on. It is what it is and we can’t change it.”

Going into the last stretch of games with an unbeaten run of four, he added: “Every game is tough, no more so than the game against Barrow. There are so many points to play for.

“Like everyone has seen with the league, the inconsistency is probably the consistency. We’ve just got to keep going, keep believing in what we’re doing.

“We’ve got a big week now for ourselves, the players and the supporters. There are nine points available and by next Saturday night, it’s about how many points we can take out of those nine.

“It starts at Barrow on Saturday. We know how difficult a game it will be and we’ve got to make sure we play the right way in the game.

Paul gave an update on injuries within the squad, saying: “We’ve now lost Jack Sparkes, Ryheem Sheckleford and Janoi Donacien. It’s been like that all year and we’re at a point now where we can’t be hurt by our injuries.

“We travel to Barrow very light on defensive options. It’s not an excuse, it’s just a fact that we’ve chopped and changed all season, where the teams who’ve had the most continuity have had the most success.”

“My hope is that we will see Kyle McFadzean and Harvey Araujo at some point this season.”

The manager previewed Barrow after attending their midweek win over Port Vale, and said: “Barrow were excellent in the first half. They’ve got strong home form and latterly beat Accrington and Gillingham up there.

“I watched them beat Carlisle 1-0 and I think Andy Whing has done a great job. They’ve got a clear identity. We know the pitch looks really difficult, but Barrow have got real technicians and footballers in their team too, so it’ll be difficult for them as well.

“The most important thing is that if we can get three points tomorrow night, we’ll be starting to put a good run together going into a Tuesday night game at home.”
