Manager looks ahead to Bristol Rovers match

Ahead of Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off, Paul Cook looked back on Tuesday’s Carabao Cup first round defeat.

Providing an honest reflection, he said: “We never let our fans down because the performance was good.

“So, we never let them down, but we let them down with the result.

“When you are in an area like ours, Chesterfield and Mansfield derbies are huge. They’re huge for bragging rights.

“The winner takes the spoils, so we took nothing, unfortunately.”

Cook was very complimentary of Bristol Rovers head coach Darrell Clarke and is expecting a tough game despite their tough start to the season.

“I’ve played against Darrell’s teams a lot,” he stated. “I think he is probably a very similar manager to myself.

“I think they’ll be a threat come the end of the season. Going into the game tomorrow, they’ve got very good players, no doubt.

“Like most teams who get relegated, there’s always hangovers from disappointment but whatever game they bring it’ll be a very tough game I know that for sure.

“He likes attacking football, so let’s see what type of game he brings tomorrow with Bristol Rovers.”

Matt Dibley-Dias was substituted in the first half against Mansfield on Tuesday and fellow midfielder Luke Butterfield limped off after the full time whistle.

Cook gave an update on the duo, saying: “Luke’s not good, probably six to eight weeks out. I think it’s a broken metatarsal.

“He might require a little bit of surgery which is a big blow for Luke because he’s a really good player, he really is.

“Dibley-Dias probably won’t make Bristol Rovers tomorrow, but he’s not going to be out for any length of time.”
