Manager James Rowe talked about new signings Jak McCourt and Tom Whelan following Tuesday night’s goal-less draw against Aldershot Town.
McCourt spent a year with the Spireites after signing in 2017 and impressed the manager with his ability on the ball.
He said: “It’s month-to-month at the moment, we just want to assess him. The only way you can assess him is giving him game time here.
“The pass inside the full-back for Jordan [Cropper] to get in for the cross at the end was outstanding. I think he showed his worth there.
“We just need to get him up to speed, he knows that himself. He hasn’t had a lot of football in the last three months.”
Whelan, the second signing made in the build-up to the match, arrived from Weymouth, who played Chesterfield last weekend.
He was the Terras’ top goalscorer so far this season with three goals in seven games. The 24-year-old is a player who Rowe has been monitoring for a while.
“I’m pleased with Tom,” Rowe said. “He had the strike for the [disallowed] goal. He got in some good positions and I think he showed his legs.
“He ran on really well and he got into some really clever positions. He made some good passes and I’m pleased for him.
“He was unlucky at Yeovil. He got put out on loan to Weymouth this time last year. He got them in the play-offs and got them promoted.
“He was a big part of their promotion push and he’s been significant in their wins [this season]. He’s one that I’ve followed, one that I trust and he’ll be here for next year as well.”
As well as incoming transfers, Rowe talked about the possibility of some players heading out on loan.
“It will give me a chance to see those ones as well,” he said. “That might be their opportunity. I said they’ll all get an opportunity and their opportunity might be on loan elsewhere.
“It gives me a chance to see them, but they will only go to places where I trust the manager and they’ll play.”
