Manager previews Crewe match

Paul Cook spoke to the media ahead of Saturday’s game at home to Crewe Alexandra.

Starting with an update on Tyrone Williams’ health, he said: “In due course, the club and Tyrone’s family will make announcements.

“He is well, he’s doing okay and he’s getting looked after really well. We send him all our love.”

Looking ahead to the game, the manager said: “Crewe have gone from strength to strength, picking themselves up fantastically well and that’s great credit to Lee (Bell) and all his staff.

“For us, it’s been one bump in the road after the next. It’s a good game for us tomorrow, it’s a game we’re very much looking forward to. There’ll be another big crowd at our stadium where our supporters have been absolutely fantastic this season

“From the players and the staff, we can only thank them for how they support us home and away and they know we’ll keep working our best to get a positive result tomorrow that might see the place brighten up in all aspects.

“Crewe are very well coached, Lee has done a very good job. They were play-off finalists last year at Wembley. Since the first ten or 12 games they’ve picked themselves up and been picking up some really strong results.

“Like 99% of teams in the league, they’ve had one or two blips – which we all have had, it’s just the nature of this division. They’ll come here tomorrow very vibrant, I’m sure they’ll have good support.

“They’ve had their own injury problems lately, but they had a fantastic result last weekend against Barrow as well as a good point down at Gillingham.”

Cook then looked ahead to the rest of the season, saying: “I want to win games and I want to get in the play-offs, it’s a simple message.

“The players get the same message every day. To be a successful team you’ve got to win.

“The season will be decided by how many points you get and there are 15 games left; it’s a third of the season, there are so many more points to play for.

“We need to put a run together quickly if we’re going to be successful and ideally that will start tomorrow against Crewe.”
