Paul Cook shared his thoughts ahead of tomorrow’s home encounter with Salford City.
He said: “You can be a club who are sitting at the bottom of the league, you can be a club sitting at the top of the league. We’ve played two games.”
“I think it takes ten games for the league to settle down a bit, for people to work each other out, for people to finish their squads. Then we’ll probably see what the league looks like.
“It’s early days, we’re really pleased with our performance last week at Crewe, of course we are, but we’re not naïve enough to think that everything will go our way like it did at Crewe.”
On his side’s set-up for the game, Cook added: “We’re coming across a guy tomorrow who’s very well-renowned and known for how good a coach he is.
“I think the game is moving forward at a rate of knots now and as a coach/manager, you’ve got to try your best to move forward with it.
“For us, it’s just about trying to get the balance right between attacking and defending, it’s something my teams have always struggled with, which is the gaps between centre-halves and full-backs where we can be hurt.
“Football is a forever-moving game and within that, you’re just doing your best to try and get your team to play as well as they can on a Saturday.”
Cook’s opposite number on Saturday will be well-experienced Karl Robinson and he was full of praise for the former MK Dons and Oxford boss.
“Karl’s a really good guy, he’s a really good football guy, he’s very passionate on his football. He’s obviously had some really good success in his career.
“He’s gone into Salford now. I watched them beat Everton in pre-season and they looked excellent.
“No doubt then they’ve gone and lost at Rochdale the next week but that’s just how football cards are dealt to us managers.”
With another big crowd expected at the SMH Group Stadium, Cook praised the support, saying: “I thought our support was magnificent last week at Crewe. It was so vociferous and boisterous and loud in a really good way.
“Obviously the goals that we scored helped us and that momentum was just carried for 90 minutes.
“Every day is not a good day when you’re a fan, but those days like last week at Crewe are why you travel to football matches.”
