Manager provides thoughts on new loan duo

The Spireites announced the loan signings of Harvey Araujo and Dilan Markanday during the week from Fulham and Blackburn Rovers respectively.

Manager Paul Cook gave his opinion on the business, saying: “We’re absolutely delighted. I think through pre-season we’ve probably had a hiccup or two, especially with injuries and it has imbalanced the squad a little bit.

“With players and personnel coming in, a slight tinkering in our shape now and again, where we’re going to flitter in and out of a couple of shapes.

“To get personnel in with the qualities that both lads bring to the club, we’re absolutely delighted, I’ve got to say.

Araujo becomes the second player to join on loan from Fulham after Devan Tanton made the move days before the start of the season.

The young centre-back will be able to provide competion as well as versatility, especially during a time of injuries.

Cook said: “I love balancing a team, I love athleticism, I love being able to handle the ball and defend. Harvey brings so many qualities.

“He’ll bring the lovely calmness to the team; he’s got a lovely left foot, very good athletically, well balanced and wants to improve.

“Again, it’s his first loan and we’ve got to respect that. These young lads are coming through really good environments.

“Fulham have been outstanding to deal with, absolutely outstanding. From minute one it was all about the players development with Harvey and Devan.”

Markanday made the move from Blackburn and Cook is excited at what the winger could provide.

He said: “In Dilan, I feel we get an exciting player in the building. I love flair players; I think everyone knows me and my flair players.

“I do think as the season goes on, for managers, your squad depth is so important.

“We’re delighted – I think his CV is there for all to see. For us, Dylan’s come from the Championship where he’s had good experience and good games.

“We want to get him a lot of the ball and we want him to be explosively positive for us and give us that bit of penetration that maybe we lack at time to time.”
