Mandeville reaches milestone

The Spireites’ current longest-serving player Liam Mandeville made his 250th appearance for the club, in all competitions, against Port Vale in Saturday’s 1-1 draw.

On reaching this milestone, Mandeville said: “It’s a very proud moment for me, I would obviously like to get over 300 appearances and then see where I can go from there.”

Mandeville played an integral role in the Spireites winning the National League last season, scoring eight goals and registering 16 assists.

This season, Mandeville has remained an ever-present, on the pitch, for the Spireites. He has featured 23 times in League Two and six times in cup competitions.

“I’m so happy to be here and it’s a great club. I know we haven’t got the result again today, but it is a club that’s going places and it will turn around,” he said.

Danny Webb gave his thoughts on Mandeville, saying: “He’s a soldier and I think he’s priceless, personally.”

The attacking midfielder joined Chesterfield from Doncaster ahead of the 2019/20 season, in what was a difficult campaign for the Spireites as they finished 20th in the National League.

Reflecting on his first season, Mandeville said: “I think I could have been close to leaving a few times.”

However, it was all uphill from that first season as the Spireites reached the National League play-offs for the next three consecutive seasons, before winning the title a year later in what was Mandeville’s fifth season.

The 27-year-old’s favourite moment and his favourite goal from his time at Chesterfield so far came in the National League play-off semi-final in 2023, against Tuesday’s opponents, Bromley.

“The Bromley semi-final… my favourite moment, favourite goal. I scored the winner in extra time. It was just the feeling of scoring and sending us to Wembley for the final was so special to me, after the disappointment of conceding an equaliser with the last kick of normal time.”
