On Luke Garrard

Since taking over in 2015, Luke Garrard has stated his case for being one of the best managers in the National League. The 38-year-old knows Boreham Wood inside and out, making over 150 appearances for the club during his playing career. Boreham Wood continue to be a thorn in the side of most National League teams and usually end up in and around the play-offs.

One to watch

Nathan Ashmore is without a doubt one of the best goalkeepers in the National League and that is something he has proven year in, year out for the last seven season. Since re-joining Boreham Wood permanently in 2020, he has helped Luke Garrard’s side solidify themselves as arguably the strongest defence in the league.

Liam O’Neil joined the Spireites in 2015 from then Premier League side West Bromwich Albion. Unfortunately, the side struggled in the two years he was in north Derbyshire.

In 2017, the midfielder swapped Chesterfield for Cambridge United and went on to make over 150 appearances for the club. After leaving the U’s in the summer, O’Neil made the move to National League side Boreham Wood. He has made eight appearances so far for the Wood.

View from the dugout

Danny Webb said: “They don’t come much tougher than this. It’s fair to say that they’ve caused teams problems over the years but this season haven’t started as well.

“They’ll be up there by the end of the season, I’m sure of it. They really do what they do well and I’m sure it’ll be another tough game that we have to be at our best at.”
