The next fixture of the busy winter period sees the Spireites back on the road as they travel to Valley Parade to take on Bradford City, who currently lie tenth in the table, just three points behind the Spireites who are still tucked into the play-off positions despite the Boxing Day defeat.
The Bantams earned themselves a strong win on the 26th, defeating second-placed Port Vale 2-1 thanks to a double from Andy Cook, so they will be full of confidence going into this one as they look to push for a play-off position themselves.
Head-to-head
It has been almost a decade since Chesterfield last beat Bradford, as Byron Harrison’s first-half goal was enough for a 1-0 away win in a League One fixture in March of 2015.
The last meeting came in the 2017/18 FA Cup campaign, when goals from Alex Gillead and Alex Jones earned Bradford a 2-0 win in the first round of the competition.
In Paul Cook’s eight games against Bradford as a manager, he has won two, lost two and drawn four.
Most recently, his Wigan Athletic side beat the West Yorkshire outfit 1-0 away from home courtesy of a goal from Michael Jacobs during the 2017/18 League One season.
Graham Alexander
Graham Alexander joined Bradford a little over a year ago following the departure of Mark Hughes after his side picked up just 13 points in their opening 11 league fixtures.
With experience across League One and Two with clubs such as Fleetwood, Scunthorpe and Salford, Alexander will be looking to add another promotion to his CV with a club possessing rich history and the potential to move up the divisions.
Player-in-focus
Andy Cook has been a big source of Bradford’s goals since he first made the move in the 2020/21 season, netting 88 times in 173 games to date.
With over 250 career goals, the 34-year-old is showing no sign of slowing up soon having already bagged 13 this season, nine more than the Bantams’ next contributors.
