The Spireites travel to Gloucestershire to face Cheltenham Town at the EV Charger Points Stadium this afternoon (12.30pm).
The Robins were relegated from League One on the final day of last season. This season, they sit in an underwhelming 14th position, struggling to string together consistent results.
Last time out, Cheltenham played out a goal-less draw with Accrington Stanley.
Head-to-head
Earlier this season, in September, the Spireites drew 1-1 with Cheltenham at the SMH Group Stadium. Dilan Markanday opened the scoring in the first half before the visitors hit back through Arkell Jude-Boyd, early in the second half.
The last time the two sides met at the EV Charger Points Stadium was in 2018, which resulted in a 1-1 draw with Kristian Dennis on the scoresheet that day.
Chesterfield haven’t beaten today’s opponents since 2014, when four first-half goals for the Spireites gave Paul Cook’s side a 4-1 win.
Manager – Michael Flynn
During his playing career, Flynn had three spells at his hometown club Newport County where he amassed over 100 appearances.
From March 2017 to October 2021, the Welshman managed 250 games for Newport County, in what has been his most successful stint in his managerial career, winning 102 of those games.
The 44-year-old was appointed Cheltenham manager last May after the Robins were relegated from League One.
Player-in-focus
Central defender Sam Stubbs is on loan at Cheltenham from Bradford City and has been a standout performer this season.
Stubbs has scored once and assisted once this season. His goal came in a thrilling 5-3 loss to Notts County, and he assisted Joel Colwill’s late winner against Tranmere Rovers.
