There is a quick turnaround for the Spireites as they are back under the floodlights at the SMH Group Stadium this evening against Colchester United in Sky Bet League Two.
After a delightful away trip to Newport on Friday night, the lads are looking to extend their unbeaten run to seven games and continue to climb the table.
Colchester come into the game in 20th position with just two wins to their name this season, but have experience in their ranks, competing at this level for the ninth consecutive season.
Head-to-head
The Spireites are facing the U’s for the first time since relegation from the Football League back in the 2017/18 League Two campaign, where the sides couldn’t be separated over both games.
Louis Reed was on the scoresheet for the Spireites as they earned a point in a 1-1 draw down in Essex in September, before the teams played out a 0-0 stalemate in North Derbyshire in late December.
Despite a loss in his first meeting with the U’s, Paul Cook has a strong record against the side, winning four out of the five games, scoring 17 and only conceding four.
After an emphatic 6-0 away win during his first spell with Chesterfield, Cook then went on to win 2-0 and 4-0 as Portsmouth manager before a 4-3 victory with Ipswich in the Football League Trophy.
Danny Cowley
Danny Cowley, assisted by brother Nicky, took charge at the JobServe Community Stadium in January this year after the departure of Matthew Etherington following a poor record of two wins during his 11 games in charge.
The Cowley brothers made their name at Lincoln City, taking the club back to the Football League whilst also reaching the quarter-finals of the FA Cup as a non-league club.
After spells at Huddersfield and Portsmouth, they moved to Colchester midway through last season and guided the side to League Two safety, finishing three points above the drop zone in 22nd position.
Player-in-focus
Lyle Taylor has become a household name for fans of EFL clubs over the last few seasons, eventually earning a move to Nottingham Forest where he was part of the squad that was promoted to the Premier League.
With over 200 career goals to date, Taylor is a force to be reckoned with at this level and will be a key part of Colchester’s team as they look to progress from last season’s underwhelming campaign.
