The Spireites will host Crewe Alexandra at the SMH Group Stadium on Saturday afternoon in Sky Bet League Two action, in what is their final home game of the regular season.
The Spireites are now six games unbeaten, and will be looking to maintain that run to secure a spot in the League Two Play-offs
Crewe cannot reach the top seven to be in with a chance of promotion this season, sitting eight points adrift with two games to play.
In the Spotlight
Tommi O’Reilly has been one of Crewe Alexandra’s standout performers this season, establishing himself as a key attacking figure following his loan move from Aston Villa.
Operating primarily on the right wing but also featuring centrally, the 22‑year‑old has improved his end product, based on previous loan spells, contributing double figures in goal contributions across more than 40 appearances in all competitions.
A recent standout performance came in Crewe’s 2-1 comeback win against Tranmere Rovers in February, providing two second-half assists, with the second coming in injury time.
The gaffer’s record
Paul Cook has managed in ten games against Crewe, winning three, drawing three and losing four.
The reverse fixture this season was a thrilling 3-3 draw back in November, with James Berry, Lee Bonis and Dilan Markanday on target for the visiting Spireites.
The last time the two sides met at the SMH Group Stadium, Crewe ran out 3-1 winners in March last season.
Man in the middle
James Bell will officiate this afternoon’s fixture, assisted by Matthew Smith, Ian Cooper and fourth official, Alex Chilowicz.
Bell previously took charge of the Spireites’ 3-0 win away at Doncaster Rovers in the early stages of last season.
Paul Cook’s thoughts
“I’ve always been a manager who believes the league table tells no lies. At the end of the season, you’ll finish where you deserve.
“I think League Two is probably one of the best divisions out of all four. There are so many permutations. It probably goes down to about 9th, where Barnet can still get in the play-offs.
“It’s about the final league table. It’s about what points you get. We’re on 73, we think we can get to 79. If we get to 79, we’ll be in the play-offs. So, it’s up to us to go out and get those points.”
