The Spireites make the short journey into South Yorkshire to the Eco-Power Stadium, looking to return to winning ways after two frustrating results against Port Vale and Cheltenham.
Donny will be equally as eager to take three points on home turf after their disappointing 2-0 loss at Harrogate Town last time out.
After a lacklustre showing for the majority of last season, it looked as though Rovers were set for a nervy end to the season, but Grant McCann’s side finished the season strongly with a 12-game unbeaten run before ultimately losing to Crewe on penalties in a play-off semi-final.
Head-to-head
The Spireites have a solid record against Rovers throughout history, winning 35, drawing 31 and losing 29, but you have to go back to early 2005 for our last win against the South Yorkshire outfit when Tcham N’Toya netted the only goal in a 1-0 win at Saltergate.
The most recent meeting between the sides came in the 2015/16 League One season, where Tommy Rowe scored for the Spireites to earn a 1-1 draw against a Doncaster squad featuring Liam Mandeville.
Paul Cook has faced Rovers’ boss Grant McCann on four occasions, taking a win, two losses and a draw.
McCann got the better of Cook first time out in 2017 when his Peterborough side won 3-2 against Wigan Athletic, a match that saw Ryan Colclough net for Wigan.
After a couple of draws, Cook’s Wigan blew McCann’s Hull side away towards the end of the 2019/20 Championship season, scoring seven goals before half-time in an 8-0 win for the Latics.
Grant McCann
Now in his second spell at Donny, McCann will be hoping his side can carry on their momentum from the end of last season and achieve an automatic promotion spot to return to League One after relegation in 2022.
After beginning his managerial career at Peterborough, McCann secured the job at Donny in 2018 and guided his side to the League One play-offs where they were knocked out by Charlton at the semi-final stage.
After a spell at Hull, and a return to Peterborough, McCann was brought back to South Yorkshire for the start of last season, tasked with leading Doncaster back to the third tier.
Player-in-focus
Now 38 years of age, Billy Sharp is one of the best Football League strikers in history.
With 276 career goals to his name, he has shown no sign of slowing down anytime soon and has already netted three times in the league this season as he aims for his sixth promotion as a player.
