Match preview: Fleetwood Town (h)

The Spireites look to extend their unbeaten home streak when they face Fleetwood Town at the SMH Group Stadium

Chesterfield have won three home games on the bounce, keeping clean sheets in their last two against Burton Albion and Salford City.

On the other hand, Pete Wild’s side are sitting in 12th place in the Sky Bet League Two table – just two points off the play-offs.

In the Spotlight

James Norwood joined Fleetwood Town in July after a successful trial period with the club.

He scored 11 times for Oldham Athletic last term as they secured promotion back to the Football League – even scoring in the play-off final against Southend United.

In his two previous games against Chesterfield, Norwood has scored in both games despite those fixtures ending in draws.

The gaffer’s record

Today will be the 15th time that Paul Cook will have come up against Fleetwood Town since their promotion back in 2012.

Cook enjoyed coming up against the Cod Army during the 2013/14 season – securing a place at Wembley Stadium in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final after a two-legged win in the area final.

The Spireites also won 2-1 on the final day against the Lancashire side to be crowned League Two champions.

Overall, Cook’s record stands at nine wins to Fleetwood’s three, with two meetings also ending in a draw.

Man in the middle

Dean Whitestone refereed his first Football League match 20 years ago this month, a 0-0 draw between Notts County and Carlisle United.

Since that point, he has taken charge of ten matches featuring Chesterfield, three wins, two draws and five defeats.

In the 672 games he has officiated, he has given 1,933 yellow cards, 92 red cards, and has awarded 168 penalties.

Gary Roberts’ thoughts

“They’re on the back of some good home wins; they found a way to win against Harrogate. I like Fleetwood, I like their manager, and I have done since his National League days

“Their forward line is really strong, they’ve got four or five really good, experienced forwards. They play 3-5-2 with their wing-backs going high. They’re a good, well-drilled team and they always will be under Pete Wild.”
