On Rob Elliot

Rob Elliot had an 18-year playing career, which saw him play for nine years at Newcastle United in both the Premier League and the Championship. The goalkeeper also played four times for the Republic of Ireland between 2014 and 2016. Following the departure of Mike Williamson in October 2023, Elliot took the job on an interim basis. The 37-year-old has a 50% win ratio as he looks to guide Gateshead to Wembley in both the National League play-off final as well as the FA Trophy final.

One to watch

Marcus Dinanga is having the season of his life and has scored pretty much a goal every two games. The former Spireite loanee is a shining light in a team that is destined for the National League play-offs and have booked their place in the FA Trophy final.

Played for both

In 2021, James Montgomery joined the Spireites from Gateshead to provide competition for fellow goalkeeper Grant Smith. The shot-stopper didn’t spend long in North Derbyshire and played seven times as the Blues made the National League play-offs.

Montgomery has played for Gateshead in five separate spells, signing for the club once more on March 30 until the end of the 2023/24 season. He was part of the Heed side that won promotion back to the National League.

View from the dugout

Danny Webb said: “We want to finish the season and send everyone on their summer holidays with a spring in their step and proud as to why they support this great football club.

“The performance has got to improve against Gateshead and hopefully we can have a really wonderful last game of the season.”
