On Maidenhead United

Maidenhead were formed over 150 years ago, back in 1870. They were one of the 15 clubs to play in the inaugural FA Cup competition in 1871/72.

The club have spent their years floating in and around the non-league pyramid. In 2016/17 Maidenhead won the National League South, earning promotion to the National League where they have been ever since. They narrowly escaped relegation last season, as the National League officially curtailed in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, requiring the outcome of the final table to be decided on a points per game basis. Both Maidenhead and Ebbsfleet United finished the season on 1.08 points per game, but the latter was relegated to the Conference South due to a lower goal difference.

Maidenhead currently finds themselves towards the foot of the National League table, in 20th position. The Magpies will be hoping they can avoid relegation this campaign and finish the season strong. They will no doubt have big aspirations of earning promotion to the Football League at some point in the future.

One to watch

Sam Barrett is an English striker, who has played in and around the non-league pyramid for several years. The 26-year-old began his career at Bracknell Town, before earning himself a move to Maidenhead in 2014 for his first stint with the club, where he spent three years, racking up over 100 appearances. He left the Magpies in 2017 to join Southend United, before re-joining the club just two years later, where he has since made another 38 appearances, scoring 20 goals. The striker has scored five goals in 12 appearances this season.

The Spireites’ last three: (W/L/W)
