The Spireites travel to Nottinghamshire to face Notts County at Meadow Lane, at the earlier kick-off time of 12:30 pm on Saturday.
The Spireites suffered a late defeat last time out, against Shrewsbury Town, and dropped to eighth in the table. They will be hoping to bounce back to revive their promotion push.
Notts County won in dramatic fashion at Walsall in their last fixture. A Jodi Jones winner in added time took the Magpies up to fourth.
In the Spotlight
Matthew Dennis is the joint-third top scorer in Sky Bet League Two this season, with 14 goals to his name.
The pick of the bunch came at Meadow Lane, in a 3-2 win against MK Dons, picking the ball up 30 yards away from goal and curling his effort into the top-right corner.
Dennis has scored once in Notts’ last five games, with that being a late penalty in their 5-0 win against Tranmere Rovers.
The gaffer’s record
In 14 previous meetings, Paul Cook has come out on top six times, whilst both drawing and losing four times.
Cook’s last visit to Meadow Lane was almost a year ago to the day, as Tom Naylor’s late winner sent 1,916 Chesterfield supporters home happy.
The reverse fixture went the way of Cook and the Spireites, as Lee Bonis opened the scoring just past the hour-mark and an own goal secured all three points.
Man in the middle
Matthew Corlett, who will officiate this fixture, has made the majority of his appearances this season in League One.
The last time Corlett took charge of a game involving the Spireites was a 4-1 win over Morecambe at the SMH Group Stadium.
Chesterfield’s 2-2 draw against Notts County in the early stages of the 2024/25 season was also a game that Corlett officiated, in which he awarded the Magpies a penalty in added time at the end of the game.
Paul Cook’s thoughts
“We look forward to playing Notts County. We’ve got a healthy rivalry, especially in my time over there. For the four years I’ve been back here, they’re always good games. They don’t need any billing.
“I look forward to playing the game in a really good competitive way. They’re an outstanding football club themselves, run very well, really got a bright young manager, coach doing exceptionally well, got a good team, be a big crowd, same as us, all striving for the same stuff.
“But for us, we’ve got to make sure we get in the play-offs. If we didn’t make the play-offs, that would be a massive underachievement, without a shadow of a doubt, and that would be on me.”
