The Spireites remain unbeaten at the SMH Group Stadium so far this season and will be looking to extend that run against Notts County today (12.30pm).
With a sell-out crowd behind them, and with players like Paddy Madden and Ryan Colclough right back up to full fitness, the lads will have all the backing they need to earn their second home win back in the Football League.
Head-to-head
It’s the first meeting with the Magpies since the shoot-out defeat in the National League play-off final back in 2023, something that should fuel Paul Cook’s side all the more to seek revenge.
The Spireites were also on the losing end in the last home fixture against County, who won 2-1 with goals from Macauley Langstaff and Adam Chicksen.
Paul Cook has faced Notts County 11 times in his career, most of which have come as Chesterfield manager over his two spells at the club.
The first meeting was just over a decade ago in September 2014, when Georg Margreitter scored for Chesterfield in a 1-1 home draw against Shaun Derry’s side.
His last win against County came in March 2022 when Laurence Maguire scored twice in a 3-1 home victory.
Stuart Maynard
After the departure of promotion-winning head coach Luke Williams in January this year, Stuart Maynard was appointed at Meadow Lane after his success with Wealdstone in the National League, where he guided the Stones to 13th place during the 2022/23 season, their highest finish in 36 years.
Results have been mixed so far, but a good start to this season sees Maynard’s side in fifth place, putting them in a good position as they search for a return to the third tier for the first time in a decade.
Player-in-focus
Gambian forward Alassana Jatta joined the Magpies in February 2024, signing from Danish side Viborg for around €150,000.
At 6ft4, the 25-year-old stands tall and provides a strong aerial threat and comes into the fixture in fine form, scoring in four of his last five games.
With strike-partner David McGoldrick not featuring since September, it’s likely Jatta will be leading the line again as County look to continue their good start to the season with another three points on the road.
