The Spireites return to action post-Christmas by welcoming Notts County to the SMH Group Stadium, live on Sky Sports Football.
Chesterfield reduced the gap to the sides above and are now only four points off Bromley in third.
On the other hand, Notts drew 0-0 with Walsall recently and are just one point off the automatic promotion places.
In the Spotlight
Alassana Jatta and Matthew Dennis have created a deadly strike force for Martin Paterson’s side, netting 19 goals in all competitions between them.
The former has scored nine of those in 18 appearances – after missing the first five games of the campaign due to suspension.
He scored 19 in League Two last term and finished second in the goalscoring charts to Michael Cheek.
One of the 19 goals came against the Spireites in the 2-2 draw at the SMH Group Stadium last season.
The gaffer’s record
Paul Cook has come up against Notts County 13 times before in his managerial career.
His meetings have only come with Chesterfield or Portsmouth, winning three with the former and twice with the latter.
Notts County have won four meetings and the other four have ended in a draw.
He managed his side to four points against the side from Meadow Lane last year, drawing at home and winning away.
Man in the middle
Benjamin Speedie will take charge of his second match involving the Spireites this season – his previous being the 2-0 win away at Cheltenham Town.
He also refereed two Chesterfield fixtures last term, which resulted in a draw and a defeat.
In his career, Speedie has given out 784 yellow cards, 36 red cards and awarded 54 penalties in his 262 appearances.
Gary Roberts’ thoughts
“We’ve both come through the leagues together, even getting beat at Wembley. It was a really good game. It was nearly done, we were nearly there and they pulled it back.
“We’ve had good wins at their place. They’ve come here and we’ve had good battles, and I think Boxing Day will be no different.”
