Assistant manager Danny Webb previewed the visit of Horsham in the FA Cup first round, saying: “It’s a banana skin that we don’t want to slip up on, with the utmost respect (to Horsham).
“They’re scoring two goals a game in their respective league, a league I know very well from being down that way. A lot of the Essex and London teams are in that league and they’re strong.
“Horsham are obviously not too far from Brighton. I think over the years they’ve had a few ex-Brighton academy lads and they always get players in. The manager has been there for quite a while now and has done ever so well.
“When I played there years ago it was a horrible ground with a sloping pitch, but now they’ve got a lovely 4G surface. If I’m honest, I’m glad we’re not going down there. Firstly because of the journey, but also because of the astroturf, I think it’s a real leveller.
“Hopefully we’ll have a good crowd in as usual – of course everyone is expecting us to win, but it’s not that easy and believe me, the preparation from us as staff has been exactly the same as a league game.”
Danny also provided an update on the injury front, commenting: “Devan Tanton and John Fleck are available for selection. Ryan Boot has still got some real bad bone bruising in his hand, so we’re just waiting for the pain to ease down.
“For the here and now, Boot is still unavailable, Fleck and Tanton will be in the matchday squad tomorrow.”
Reflecting on some of his personal FA Cup highlights, Danny added: “The wins and the draws we’ve had here. The game at Chelsea in my first full season was great for me personally because my dad has links with the club.
“Yes, we got battered on the day, but I don’t think we really expected anything different. Six thousand Spireites behind the goal – I’ll never forget that, when Asante scored and it was like we’d won the World Cup.”
