Patience pays off as Dobra deal finalised

Following months of hard work behind the scenes, executive director Ashley Kirk spoke to 1866+ after Armando Dobra signed a new contract with the club, saying: “We have been working on the deal for probably six months and I’d like to thank Armando and his agents, they’ve been great.

“Nothing in football is simple and he wanted to see that we were matching his ambition. I believe that we are and I think that him signing shows that he sees that.

“He’s fast approaching becoming a legend, and I don’t use that term lightly. If he’s going to be with us for another two-and-a-half years, what he’ll cement here at Chesterfield will be something that he’ll be able to look back at the end of his career with pride.

“I think people in Chesterfield will never forget him, which is an important thing in a career. I think for any career, no matter what you do, to be remembered is important and it is an impressive thing if you can pull it off.

“What we’re hoping to do as we go forward, with the signing of people like Dylan Duffy for example, is we are looking to bring in talent, youth and energy to meld with the experience we have got in the team and push us on and keep building as a side.

“It is important that the fans see us doing it and it is important that the fans understand what we are doing. It is also important that the fans back us and keep with us.

“The support we have had this year and last year and the year before has been fantastic and we’ve got to grow together as a club and a town, hand in hand. That’s vital for the future of the club, but we’re going to have a great time going forward and it should put a smile on everyone’s faces!”
