Paul Cook faces press ahead of Crewe fixture

Manager Paul Cook sat down with the media on Friday morning to preview the Spireites’ final home fixture of the regular season against Crewe Alexandra at the SMH Group Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Starting with the final run-in of the League Two season, Cook commented: “I’ve always been a manager who believes the league table tells no lies. At the end of the season, you’ll finish where you deserve.

“I think League Two is probably one of the best divisions out of all four. There are so many permutations. It probably goes down to about 9th, where Barnet can still get in the play-offs.

“It’s about the final league table. It’s about what points you get. We’re on 73, we think we can get to 79. If we get to 79, we’ll be in the play-offs. So, it’s up to us to go out and get those points.”

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s opponents Crewe Alexandra, Cook added: “I’ve got to know Lee Bell over the last probably two seasons really.

“The first time I came across his Crewe team, I was out of work, and I was doing some work for Sky. They lost at home to Doncaster 2-0. I remember listening to his interview after the game.

“The first thing I thought to myself, Crewe aren’t out of this tie, because you could hear it in the manager’s voice. And he went on to win the tie at Doncaster and go to Wembley. I think Lee’s done a fantastic job.

Finally, Cook provided an injury update on a couple of squad members, saying: “We’ve got Will Grigg back involved tomorrow. Tom Pearce is back involved. We’re in good health.”
