Preview | Salford City (A)

The Spireites return to action this weekend as a trip to Salford City awaits in Sky Bet League Two.

Paul Cook’s side will be looking to get off the mark in terms of both goals and points this season after consecutive 1-0 defeats against Fleetwood.

Salford also tasted defeat in their opening league game against Barnet, who ran out 3-1 victors.

In the Spotlight

Macaulay Langstaff signed for the Ammies this summer, after two seasons at Championship Millwall.

The striker scored 28 goals in his most recent League Two campaign, at Notts County, which earned him his Championship move to the Lions.

Over two seasons at Notts County, Langstaff scored 71 goals in 97 appearances across all competitions.

Head-to-head

The Spireites and Salford City first met in 2018, as the Ammies came away 3-2 victors after a late winner from Danny Whitehead.

Since then, the Spireites are undefeated in six games against Salford, winning five of those clashes.

Loanee Sam Curtis forced the winning goal in the last fixture between the two clubs, sending the Spireites faithful home happy with all three points.

Man in the middle

Scott Oldham will be in charge of this fixture, assisted by Bradley Hall, Adam Nichol and fourth official, Andrew Miller.

Oldham’s last appointment to a Spireites game was at the back end of last season, as Chesterfield secured a play-off position with a 2-1 win at Swindon.

The gaffer’s thoughts

“We had seven debutants last Saturday at home, five starting the game and two that came on as subs. The brutal truth from my world is all new players, all new teams that are put together, they need time. The media world today doesn’t allow that.

“You know, my world is very much focussing on repetition, on the training ground. We’ve trained really well this week, and all I can tell everyone is we’re really looking forward to the game.

“Our supporters know we’ll try our best not to take a backward step tomorrow. I’m sure Salford will have a lot to say on that matter. If they force us back, it’s because they’re a good side.”
