Rowe looks forward to return to action

Ahead of the Spireites’ first game of 2021, James Rowe spoke of the danger Solihull Moors pose despite their league position portraying a different story.

He said: “With their budget and aspirations, they probably haven’t done as well as they thought they would at the start of the season.

“They’ve still picked up three wins and three losses in their last six, so they are picking up results. We’ve got to make sure that we put a stop to their positive result against Halifax last time out.

“They’ll be coming in good spirits, but we are in good spirits too. Playing two games in three days against the same team is unheard of and quirky, but we will do our talking on the pitch.”

The squad and staff were forced to isolate after a positive COVID-19 test in the Chesterfield camp, but Rowe stated that the players have continued to stay fit during the isolation period.

“It’s unique for all of us at the moment in the professional game,” he said. “We kept fit on Zoom the best we could. Obviously, it’s not great isolating over Christmas.

“Nearly all of us were fortunate to have loved ones around us and it’s important to be around your family during that period to stay positive from a football perspective.

“It’s a shame because we had good momentum, but there is no reason why we can’t maintain that momentum when we take on Solihull on Saturday.

“We did some high intensity stuff, some low impact days just trying the best we could. We had a two-day recovery after the Brackley game. The base fitness is there and I haven’t got any worries on the fitness of the lads.”
