The Spireites delivered a massively important 4-2 win over Barnet to put them five points clear at the top of the table, with a game in hand.
Second-half goals from Armando Dobra, Will Grigg, Michael Jacobs and Joe Quigley meant that the Spireites got all three points.
Paul Cook made two changes from the side that beat Portsmouth as Mike Jones and Ryan Colclough came in for Darren Oldaker and Jacobs.
Barnet had an early chance when the ball was crossed into Nicke Kabamba at the back post, but his headed attempt was blocked on the line by Brenden Horton.
Danielle Collinge nearly put the ball into his own net for Barnet as a cross came in from the right-hand side, the ball trickled narrowly wide of the post.
Soon after, the Spireites almost found themselves behind,when a flurry of shots was unloaded towards the Spireites’ net, but superb goal-line clearances from both Horton and Palmer kept the game level.
The Spireites went into half time with the game level at 0-0.
The Spireites took the lead in the 49th minute when the ball was drilled low across the box by Colclough on the left-hand side and Dobra was there to slide in and knock it past the keeper from a tough angle.
The Spireites doubled their lead in the 59th minute through Grigg. After blocked shots from Dobra and Mandeville inside the box, the ball fell kindly in the box to Grigg who tapped in from a couple of yards out.
Ollie Banks had a great chance for the Spireites after driving into the box on the right-hand side and smashing the ball across to the bottom left, but his shot skimmed past the post.
Substitute Jacobs almost made an instant impact after coming on as he danced through the box beating his man and getting a shot away, though his effort was well saved.
Jacobs made up for his earlier miss and made it three for the Spireites in the 75th minute as the ball fell to him in plenty of space on the right-hand side of the box. He took a touch and calmly slotted it past the keeper.
James Berry came agonisingly close to scoring, not long after coming on as a sub when he latched onto a through ball from Jacobs and found himself one-on-one, but his shot went slightly wide.
In the 87th minute, another substitute, Quigley, also found himself one-on-one with the keeper, and made no mistake, calmly slotting the ball past the keeper and making it four for the Spireites.
Barnet pulled one back in the 92nd minute through a tap-in from Gary Hooper, following a corner.
Hooper was there again to pull another goal back for Barnet in the 93rd minute, once again from a corner.
Attention will now turn to next Saturday’s away trip to Southend United.
