Spireites draw against Harrogate

The Spireites were held to a goalless draw against Harrogate Town at the SMH Group Stadium.

Paul Cook made a single change to the side that beat Notts County last time out as Janoi Donacien replaced the injured Ryheem Sheckleford. Will Grigg returned to the bench from an Injury.

Armando Dobra set off on a mazy run in the sixth minute which almost produced a goal, as he unleashed his effort from the edge of the box, but a Harrogate defender was on hand to block.

Ryan Boot pulled off an impressive save at full stretch, in the 12th minute, to push Bryn Morris’ direct free kick away from danger.

One minute later, a quick Harrogate counter-attack was almost converted by Josh March, who latched onto Jack Muldoon’s low cross, but Boot made the save again.

Jenson Metcalfe took on an effort from the edge of the box, after picking up a loose ball from a corner, but his effort couldn’t make its way through the crowd of defenders.

As half-time approached, Bim Pepple managed to hold off Anthony O’Connor and get around the defender to pull back to Naylor, who was dispossessed before he could get his shot away.

The two sides were deadlocked at half-time, with chances scarce for either side in the first period.

The first chance of the second half came just past the hour mark as Liam Mandeville set the Spireites on a quick break. Olakigbe laid the ball back to Mandeville to cut inside and shoot, but a last-ditch block prevented the opener.

Morris had another free kick within shooting range, in the 65th minute, and forced Boot to push his effort behind for a corner.

“Will Grigg’s on Fire” echoed around the SMH Group Stadium as the Spireites’ number nine replaced Pepple in the 68th minute, to make his first appearance since December.

Dobra forced James Belshaw into making a save, with 15 minutes to play, after cutting in on his right foot and curling a strike towards the far post.

Michael Olakigbe broke free on the right wing and flashed a cross across the face of goal, towards Grigg, but the striker could not reach the cross to break the deadlock.

The Spireites came inches away from scoring late on with a hattrick of chances. Mandeville’s cross was glanced on by Grigg and had to be cleared off the line before Olakigbe’s and Palmer’s follow-ups were both blocked.

Ryan Colclough had two quick chances in the 89th and 90th minute. Firstly, arriving late at the back post to turn Olakigbe’s floated cross towards goal, which was saved, followed by a shot from the edge of the box that deflected wide.

The Spireites will travel to Barrow next Saturday, with the aim of winning a third consecutive away game.
