The Spireites were held to a 1-1 draw against Fleetwood Town, with Dilan Markanday’s first-half strike cancelling out Will Davies’ early opener.
A point keeps Chesterfield in sixth place, and makes it 13 unbeaten in the league at the SMH Group Stadium.
Paul Cook made two changes to the side that won 2-0 against Salford City last Saturday, both of which were enforced with Tom Naylor and Vontae Daley-Campbell missing the game through suspension, allowing James Berry and Devan Tanton to come in from the start.
Cook himself was also absent today, as the manager served the first of his two-game touchline ban.
It was a lively start to the game, and Fleetwood thought they had struck first when Ryan Graydon found the net, only to be flagged for offside.
However, with seven minutes on the clock, the visitors did take the lead.
Harrison Neal’s in-swinging corner found Davies in space, and the forward headed past Zach Hemming to make it 1-0.
The game fell into a lull after the goal, with neither side creating any notable chances.
Until, with 25 minutes played, Chesterfield levelled things up.
After a powerful run into the area, Ryan Stirk’s dangerous ball across the box found Markanday, whose finish was too powerful for Lynch.
Moments later, the Spireites almost took the lead when the ball pinballed around the box, but neither Lee Bonis nor Chey Dunkley could find the finish.
Markanday nearly turned provider after a dazzling run on the right-hand side, but his pull back couldn’t find a blue shirt.
After the break, it was one-way traffic, with the Spireites enjoying the majority of the ball.
Though the home side were unable to convert this dominance into chances, with Berry the only one with a brief sight of goal.
As the game ticked over into the final 20 minutes, the Spireites continued to pile forward but were repeatedly kept out by a sea of red shirts.
The home faithful felt they should have had a penalty when Bonis appeared to be pulled to the ground; however, the referee waved away any appeals.
Against the run of play, Davies broke through one-on-one and looked destined to score, until a vital intervention from Hemming kept the scores level.
Chesterfield threw everything to grab a late winner with substitutes Dylan Duffy and Ronan Darcy firing dangerous crosses into the Fleetwood box.
Fleetwood captain Elliot Bonds then heroically charged down Markanday’s goal-bound effort as the game headed into stoppage time.
Despite late, endless home attacks, Fleetwood ultimately stood firm and held out for a point.
