Spireites draw at Maidenhead

The Spireites extended their unbeaten run of games away from home but had to settle for a goalless draw against Maidenhead United at York Road.

The first half saw very few attempts on goal but the second period saw both teams squander very good chances.

Paul Cook made one change to the team that beat FC Halifax Town with Paul McCallum replacing Joe Quigley.

Tyrone Williams and Ryheem Sheckleford came onto the bench in place of Branden Horton and the injured Armando Dorba.

The visitors started the game well with plenty of possession; Andrew Dallas almost scored the opener with a deflected cross that struck the crossbar.

Ryan Colclough managed to turn his man on the edge of the box and fire a powerful effort that was turned away at he near post by Alexis Andre Jr.

The game fell flat after the opening 20 minutes with both sides struggling to create anything of not.

Laurence Maguire headed over from a Jeff King corner, but Chesterfield was forced to go into the break with the scores level.

Despite seeing little of the ball in the first half, Maidenhead produced a golden chance five minutes into the second period. The ball was lost in the final third, Ashely Nathaniel-George’s ball found Shawn McCoulsky, who skied the ball over from six-yards.

Not even five minutes later, Jamie Grimes’ clearance saw Dallas go through on goal after a slip from Sam Beckwith – the attacker rounded Andre Jr and skewed his effort wide of the gaping goal.

The game maintained a frantic pace as it neared the hour mark. Emile Acquah latched onto a cross and scuffed his shot wide of the empty net after Ross Fitzsimons was beaten to the ball.

Colclough latched onto a deep King cross but could only find the roof of the net with his header.

Both teams went in search of a winner, but the defences came out on top – the sides had to settle for a point each.
